About the Author

Kyle Meloy is a mechanical engineer by education (Texas A&M University) and a hands-on educator by calling. While his skills have always been in the area of building, he began shifting his values of “the american dream” as he & his wife began building out the life that they wanted to create together. His education up until that point had followed the typical model of linear progress, gold star achievement, & memorizing the answers that would be on the test. His wife’s childhood with life schooling, self-led education, & entrepreneurial parents created a massive paradigm shift for the direction that Kyle wanted to take his life.

Within their first year of marriage, Kyle & his wife traded their pursuit of the linear american dream for a life that tapped into their true callings & purpose.

They moved out of their home state to the west coast of florida, started a brand new business with Kyle’s father-in-law, & this is where Kyle was able to rapidly expand his life skill tool kit.

He entered into an apprenticeship with an elder master builder & spent years flipping homes as a family business. During that time, Kyle discovered a deeper passion— woodworking as a form of functional art— most notably through building hollow wooden surfboards. This passion evolved into a business where he merged his skills for building with his values of “teaching a man to fish.” He not only crafted custom boards— he also empowered others to learn how to build boards themselves by creating DIY educational e-books & blueprints.

Fast-forward to today, now living on an island homestead in Hawai’i with his wife & three children, Kyle has integrated his experiences into a passion for raising children with his values of—

  1. Pursuing your passions & gifts to the fullest

  2. Engaging with life creatively

  3. Building your skillset to be able to utilize the abundance of resources right in front of you

  4. Relearning the art of handiwork to be able to think critically & solve your own problems from within

  5. Seeing all of life as your educational landscape

Today, Kyle has shifted his skillset focus to teaching practical life learning + life skills, including—

woodworking, handiwork, outdoor competence, and grounded masculinity.

He believes in education through doing, and his mission is simple: equip others with real, tangible skills that build confidence, capability, and character.
